★★★★★Extremely well-made with solid materials and a clever treat drawer to encourage use—brilliant concept!

Less nail-trim dread. More tail-wagging time.
Watch the scratch. Picture your next nail day.
🤺 Another pulled-away paw? Change the approach.
You bring out the clippers. They pull their paw away. You both tense up. PlayToTrim gives your dog a reason to join in: a treat to work toward, with a filing surface under their paws.
Pop a favorite treat in the drawer, encourage a scratch, then open it to reward them. As your dog learns the game, the front nails touching the surface are gradually filed. A useful job for them. A new way forward for you.
🐕🦺 Give them a reason to come closer
Imagine reaching for the treat bag instead of bracing for another struggle. Your dog gets a job worth doing. You get a way to work on front-nail care together. Start with small rewarded scratches and build at their pace—the included training guide helps you get started.
🐾 The next nail day is coming. Be ready.
You already know what another round with the same tools feels like. Give yourself a different next step: a ready-made board, a treat drawer and a training guide in your order. Choose your spare surfaces, bring their favorite rewards, and turn “I should try that” into your dog's next new skill.
They do the scratching. You bring the rewards.

Try it with my dog

Don't let “maybe tomorrow” become the plan again. Bring home PlayToTrim and give your dog a fresh start. If it isn't right for you, contact us within 30 days of delivery under our money-back guarantee. Normal signs of genuine trial use do not void your refund. See our full return terms.
Yes, get my PlayToTrimPlayToTrim helps maintain front nails as your dog scratches. Only nails that touch the surface will file, so check their progress and keep separate care for back nails, dewclaws and any nails the board misses. It's a new way to handle an important part of nail care at home.
Stay with your dog for short sessions. Reward a few scratches, pause, and check their nails and paws. Stop if they chew the surface or show discomfort, and replace worn or lifting surfaces. Too much filing can cause soreness or bleeding, so keep the game short and check as you go.
You don't need to start with a dog who already knows the game. The included training guide gives you a starting point: introduce the board, reward interest, then build toward a scratch. Some dogs need more practice than others. Bring their favorite treats and celebrate each small step.

Your wooden scratch board measures approximately 35 × 25 × 3 cm and includes a treat drawer and a fitted abrasive surface. Choose a bundle with 1, 2 or 5 additional replacement surfaces.
Replace it when it becomes smooth, damaged or starts lifting. Check that the new surface is secure before your next session. There is no fixed replacement schedule: wear depends on use.

Start with our step-by-step training guide. If your dog licks the board instead of scratching, try these training steps.

★★★★★After 1 week, I would give it 5 stars. My dog is reactive and one of his triggers is his paws being touched. I have worked my way up over the years to do his nails myself, in lieu of sedation at the vet, but i still sometimes only get 2-3 nails done before he starts to show signs of being anxious and we have to stop. This nail file definitely files his nails down and he 100% thinks its a game. He gets really excited when I go get it and he's wagging his tail the entire time. We're still building up to multiple paw swipes at a time, but I think this is a great alternative for us!

★★★★★It's amazing for my crazy pittie girl!! We have to work with her slowly but it's super effective and no stress. She loves her new job!! You do have to hold it for a strong dog. She paws and she gets a treat. Very fun and nobody is crying!!

★★★★★My dog loves it. She's a pointer mix and is 58 pounds. She really enjoyed the positive reinforcement. At first it took a little while for her to get the concept so you might have to get creative, especially if your pup is afraid of their nails getting trimmed. Once she got it, it was a great way to get her nails down. The only thing I will say is that when she was first trying to get it, she was nibbling at the board so it peeled a little bit for the price, I can't complain. Would definitely recommend.

★★★★★Easy to train our puppies to use. Now they vigorously scratch 2-3 times, and get a little treat. They love it! Only works for the front claws, but that is what we needed. When I trimmed the front claws with clippers, they were worse! ha ha. Like little half-moon scratchy claws. This helps smooth them out nicely. The puppies do not like me buffing their claws, but they LOVE scratching on this to get a treat. Having the hidden treat compartment really helps my little girls.

★★★★★Like another reviewer said, i love this because it changes the dynamic between your and your dog, you're not 'doing' anything to them anymore (ie. restraining them to clip their nails), they are interacting with the board themselves. I seriously think that this will help me and my adopted shelter dog get closer and have a better relationship. She's already got a hang of it!

★★★★★My little loves this, I subbed to the yearly surface refills (like 9$ a year) and they send me the surfaces automatically. Makes doing nails so easy no more fights.

★★★★★Finally can shorten my dog's nails without worrying about nicking him! He is food-motivated so he likes it when we play with this. Sometimes he only half-heartedly scratches but it still wears them down! It's rough like 80 grit sandpaper and you can buy refills that stick on over the older surface when it gets worn off. Totally worth it!

★★★★★Took my beagle about a week to get the idea. Once she did, she's obsessed. Docking one star only because the treat drawer is a little stiff.

★★★★★I have a 90lb lab who screamed at nail clippers. Three sessions and he files them himself. My only regret is not buying this sooner.

★★★★★Rescue with severe handling anxiety. He won't let anyone touch his paws, but he'll scratch this all day for a treat. Life changing.
